Now, here’s a guy you all probably know, or at least have seen lurking around your office or at a trade show once or twice.
How long have you worked at Jo-Bee?
I’ve been around this company my whole life, but have been working here for 21 years. I’ve been Vice President for 4 years. For 17 years before this, I was Vice President of Sales for 17 years.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is interacting with the distributors. I like giving them case histories on how and where our products are being sold. It’s nice to see an idea turn into an order.
Do you travel a lot for your job?
I’m usually on the road 8 out of the first 12 weeks of the year. That is when our industry hold most of its major tradeshows. After that, I’m calling on distributors about one week each month. I’ll travel to all regions of the country for the rest of the year.
What is your best seller and why do you think it does so well?
Our stick pens and mood pencils are our best sellers. The stick pens are made in the USA and are a very good value. The mood pencil (it’s heat sensitive and changes colors when you touch it) has been a good seller for several years. Anyone promoting to kids has used the mood pencil. It’s always an attention getter.
How has the recent shifting in the economy affected you and your company?
It has affected us just like most companies around our country. We had distributors that sold to banks, realtors and construction companies. As we all know, they have been hit the hardest. Our school products (pencils, school pouches, erasers, etc.) have continued to do well. We’ve had to trim our work force and watch every dollar in these tough times.
When he’s not traveling for Jo-Bee, David hanging out with his two sons, listening to and playing music…next time you see him, ask him about his band. While you’re at it, ask him how many frequent flyer miles he has.
